So today was by far the most difficult day of my career thus far. - TopicsExpress

So today was by far the most difficult day of my career thus far. After meeting with the grief counselors and the prayer service, we had homeroom, where it was expected that the girls would want to talk about what happened... I told them that the floor was open for them to speak freely or they could spend homeroom in silence. Well, they remained silent, some had their heads down, others were choking back tears. When 3 or so minutes passed, I checked the clock--15mins to go. I couldnt watch them like that for 15mins! So I sat behind my desk, made the sign of the Cross, and started a Hail Mary. They responded. After the fourth or fifth Hail Mary, I figured hey, might as well go for the whole decade. I started to choke up around number 7, and the girls started choking up too. But we made it through the decade, with just over 5 more minutes left. I stood up and said, Ya know? I went to BJs this weekend and purposefully bought 10 boxes of tissues because I knew I would need them today but I forgot them in the trunk of my car. That broke the ice. I had my student teacher run out and get the boxes of tissues. Thinking I bought the large boxes, it turned out to be the small cubed boxes--when I ripped open the wrapping, the small boxes fell all over the floor--they started laughing hysterically. One of my girls came up to me at the end of homeroom. Thanks, Mr. Dee, she said, thats the first time I laughed in days.
