So today was kind of a yucky day. Nothing earth-shattering. And the details arent important. Look -- we all know whats happening in the world. Its heartbreaking. My soul ailment? It would be like barging into the ICU and complaining about the splinter in my finger. My little problem? That isnt the thing I want to tell you about. The thing I want to tell you is a simple illustration of what it means to be a friend: A couple of Jesus-sisters read between some lines of vague sentences that I wrote in private messages. And between all those letters they heard the wee tapping of a womans SOS, and they called me on the phone, unsolicited, about an hour apart from one another. They just flat. out. called. me, and they didnt worry about what they were interrupting. And neither of them chided me. And neither of them told me I was wrong or bonkers -- though they may have thought it. Because: splinter. They just listened. And then, both of them ended the call with the same magic words: Can I pray for you before we hang up? And they did just that. Thats the good stuff right there; thats one very effective antidote to the yuck of a day. The combination of good friends and prayer. It works, people. It really works.
