So, todays Ryder story.. on the way home from work, Ryder tells me mom! there is a snake in the pocket of your seat. I look at him in the rearview mirror and say are you playing a joke? He says no all serious. So, I say (panic beginning to set in). are you looking at it right now? He says yes, mom, its RIGHT there- pointing. A little scream inside of me, and I say well, Ryder - DONT touch it. Im pulling over and you had better not be playing a joke on me. I pull over and I open his door (cautiously) - look inside, and I dont see anything. Then, I look at him and say Ryder? Are you telling the truth? Did you really see a snake in there? to which he answers yes mom! Geez! So, I say I am NOT putting my hand in there and I dont see anything. Hold on, let me get my flashlight (i know, such a chicken for a tough chick, huh?) I open the pocket and peer inside to see - wait for it- NOTHING. Then, I look at him.. while my peripheral vision is scanning the rest of the car.. and say Ryder! I dont see anything in there. There is no snake. Did you SEE one? He says to me its in the back of the car now, mom. You took too long. I say to him Ryder, I mean it. I need to know if you are playing a joke on mommy or if you are telling the truth. Are you telling the truth? Because if you are, mommy needs to find it and get it out of here. He says mom? Why are you mad? to which I reply I am not mad baby, I am a little scared. Are you telling me the truth?! Tell me! Ryder says I dont know mommy. What IS the truth? I dont know what to say? So, I tell him that the TRUTH is something that REALLY happened, and a lie is saying something that DIDNT really happen. I tell him he wont be in trouble if he tells me the truth and if he was just playing a joke on me, but that I needed to know if he REALLY saw one or not. He says no, i did not really see one mom. But that was funny, right? I tell him thank you for telling mommy the truth. Got back in the car, and came home. My heart still hasnt really settled back in my chest. Thinking I might have to recon the car tonight after they go to sleep... JUST to be sure.
