So tomorrow Im going to be busy from sun up to past sun down, so I want to post day 2 of my 3 artworks for 5 days challenge now. Day 2s work reflects my love of non-functional sewing. As many of us do, I come from a line of quilters. These works involved a little collaboration with my mother Jean Linn. She is quite the embroidery expert- she knows all the stitches, knots, etc.- in contrast to a hack like me. For these works, I sent her pieces of fabric with transfers of old school anthropomorphic dish towel animals. She sent them back to me with the embroidery line work completed and I created the rest of the story around them. Theres some Richard Scarry influence here. I am a Bunny had a big impact on me early on. I also discovered while creating these works that I love to cut out and sew felt letters in the helvetica font. One day I may just make artworks made of felt helvetica font. (again, kids, please learn to photograph your work- even funky shapes and weird textures)
