So, tonight Elijah asked me if he could decorate his bedroom door. I think he was a bit shocked when I said sure thing! I had no idea what it would entail, but I didnt care! The reason I didnt care is because of a speech I saw and book I read by Randy Pausch, titled The Last Lecture. You see, Randy was a father of three and was dying of cancer. He was told he had 3-6 months to live, so he wanted to do his last lecture for his children, who would one day be old enough to watch. There was a part in his speech that has stayed in my mind since I originally heard it. As a child/teen, his parents let him decorate his room and write on his walls. They let him show his thoughts, imagination and creativity instead of worrying about keeping a pristine house. For some reason I never forgot that. So tonight, I just sat back and watched as the boys decorated bedroom doors--and they were happy as could be....and I was too!
