So, tonight at the bar, I know - ironic that I only feel well enough to go to the bar, I had fascinating enlightening conversations. Half of the night was spent conversing with a pilot. We discussed his privilege as a Caucasian in society, and we discussed his positionality among the places he has traveled in the world. The other half of the night was spent with an Alaskan Native woman and her husband, a Caucasian neuropsychologist. We talked about everything from Indigeneity to racism to cases of atrophy of the brain. We ended the night discussing their secrets to marriage. We talked for hours; we laughed so hard. They insisted on taking me around Alaska the next time Im here; and theyre gonna connect me with some people who can help me with my dissertation project. Then, one of my new friends drove me around Anchorage to see the town. Tonight was a good last night in Alaska. I love the unexpected meaningful conversations :)
