So, training walk three today, took a bit of a risk and wore my brand new caligae with only a single neatsfoot treatment and no insoles (just to see what that felt like. Distance: 9.6 miles Donations: 1 (and several promises) Photos taken: 3 Pints consumed: 0 (in the pursuit of healthy vigour and because we started out too early) Number of people shouting Hail Caesar: 8 Blisters: 2 - one small, ball of left foot, one small end of second toe right foot. Verdict: the caligae are working better than I could have hoped, a strong addition to the kit. As usual several hobnails fell out and will have to be replaced, bit very little blistering and they look great, plus my feet can breathe. Im a convert. How well theyll perform on Hadrians Wall in June I dont know, but theyll be value for money in Italy, I suspect. Result... Pics: 1. Start of walk pose by the Black Chariot - check out the boots! 2. Mid walk with David and Gloria who donated to the walk - check out that massive Roman nose on the centurion! Film to follow...
