So two days ago, I went to the wedding of David Ruiz and Jeff Cleghorn of Kitchens New Cleghorn, LLC (theyre the ones in the tuxes) and went as the date of Suzy Life (gold dress) of Life, Love, Law., and hung out with Douglas Brooks (middle of the group pic) and Dan Grossman and many more, and so one wedding party basically had half of the most prominent LGBT rights lawyers in the state. We were talking about the recently filed case in Georgia, vaulted by Beth Littrell of Lambda Legal, and also about how frackin cute Jeff and David were, but also the strange dynamic in play--this was in many ways the culmination of decades of Jeffs work to help LGBT people prosper/love/survive, but still tempered by the fact that Jeff and David were getting remarried after their courtroom ceremony in California (what with that unconstitutional ban here in Georgia), and we discussed the many more pins to knock down after this whole marriage equality thing gets wrapped up. For now, I suppose I say we celebrate our victories as they come, including the fact that I no longer have to tell Jeff to smile for pictures since thanks to David he now just does it unthinking, and that theres a reason we store a piece of cake in the freezer. I hope Messrs. Cleghorn-Ruiz and Ruiz-Cleghorn freeze an extra slice for when one particular US Supreme Court ruling comes down, and as we continue on with fights over employment, healthcare, and immigration, Ill just have to bake another cake for all victories thereafter. With people like this in the fight, IM BUYING A LOT OF FLOUR. DANCE IN THE END ZONE JEFF!
