So two female Cabot Police officers pull in front of my motorcycle tonight after I parked at Brick Oven Pizza in Cabot about 10 minutes before the business closed. We had just been out supporting the bike rally for the Arkansas Special Olympics beginning ceremony with a couple hundred other bikes. They gave me the come here finger and said that my LED ENGINE LIGHTS that are installed to make my bike more safe and visible to other traffic werent allowed. The FTO acted like she was pissed off that I asked if that was illegal and what the statute was, of which neither her rookie nor her could find nor explain for the nearly 10 minute encounter. I asked if they could have a supervisor come out and explain what was legal. Now Ive been riding these lights for years so my bike is more visible to other roadway traffic so I can limit getting hit by cell phone texters and other inattentive drivers. I explained that I had never been stopped or approached by any other police agency and even have been complimented and encouraged for the light use to save me and my wifes safety, by other law enforcement personnel. It was night time approx 2150 hrs (9:50pm). The FTO was like we arent giving you a ticket and only giving you a verbal warning. Boy! Thanks a lot for harassing a LAW ABIDING citizen, of which I am a PRIOR POLICE OFFICER, a Combat Veteran, and only trying to be safe! Isnt that my right?! I got their names and told them Id contact the Police Dept tomorrow and find the statute and what was legal. I explained that the intent of laws was to ensure my safety and other traffic, I thought. They came back and approached me in the restaurant to give me a piece if paper with the code they were referring to. I had called the police dept and asked for a supervisor to call me and give me his clarification and opinion on the traffic code. Thats prob why they came back. By this time the other people in the restaurant were looking at me and asking what the problem was and I explained. They were astonished that I was getting harassed with such minutia. I went outside to discuss the issue and explained how I thought that this probable cause for this encounter was very weak and intruded on my time, also the rookie said she had just wrote a ticket last week for a ground effects light package on a car. I further stated my opinion about the letter of the law and spirit of the law and how by stopping citizens for such things destroyed public perception and support for their Public servants and that they should think about winning over citizens rather than writing tickets for a victimless violation. Although I didnt get a ticket this bothered me extremely and I was unable to eat or enjoy being out. Not one thing positive can be said for this type of harassment and dealing with people and trying to write tickets for crap like this! If any and all law enforcement officers dont recognize the EXTREME NEED, now more than ever, to get WE THE PEOPLE behind them and on the same side, then when our nation soon collapses,(and I firmly believe it soon will), then absolutely NO ONE will side with any public servants! You all know me and my PATRIOTISM and Selfless dedication and sense of duty and law abiding has NEVER been questioned. Why then am I made to feel as though I was treated at first encounter like I had better not question the validity of them calling me over and like I was being scolded. The rookie was nice enough and just seemed to be getting coached in how to harass the public. To protect and serve? Where is the honor and impact of not patrolling high crime areas and actually trying to make a positive impact on people? By the end of this talk to them I hope that they will search their souls and change their behaviors, but Im not holding my breath. Where is our individual rights and agency? How do we have freedom or any Liberty to live our lives without fear of the MULTITUDE of supposed laws, violations, etc, that are overwhelmingly added yearly and enforced by the growing militant police forces and oppressive, ever-expanding government agencies, with absolutely NO CHECKS and Balances on this authority?! Let me say this, in case no one has told you. We the People are SICK OF IT!! I support only the Constitution. I respect Only those who deserve respect and give it first. I demand to be treated with common courtesy, the same as I give my fellow man. Im not the one to be silent when I see injustice or feel someone is wrong. There are good, solid, dependable law enforcement and other officials out there and I was one, at one time, but I dont see the good ones teaching the others and breaking the mold of the hard nose, tough guy cop that youd better not cross. If this offends anyone, then chances are they are part of the problem. If not, then I commend you and ask for you to stand up and be heard, even if you risk going against the masses of people that are asleep or brainwashed into submitting or in fear of expressing and enjoying their rights. End of my rant.
