So, we didnt get a response from the No supporters out there, but here is an article from someone in favour of Scottish independence... What an exciting time we’re living in! A nation voting on its own independence. We take this for granted, although in other parts of the world people have fought, killed and died for this “choice” that we are making by simply picking up a pen and making an X. And what a luxury for us to weigh up facts and figures to decide whether or not we would like to be independent! Again, people have died for independence. 50,000 died just in the American War for Independence. No one has to die here. We get to choose. Now. Can we do it? Survive as an independent nation? Simply put, Yes. In comparing Scotland to France, Norway, and Switzerland, PM David Cameron concedes that “it would be wrong to suggest that Scotland could not be another such successful, independent country.” There are a great many who have since suggested precisely that – that Scotland would fall flat on her face. And woe is us when it all goes wrong! We have massive natural resources in Scotland. Even outwith the oil and gas industry, Scotland could still expect to punch above its weight as an exporter. Top 35 in the world, according to independent analysts. We also have great compassion for our fellow man. Part of my reason for supporting the change to an independent Scotland is that I see a need for a shift away from defence spending and toward investment in business and protecting our most vulnerable citizens. I suppose I start from a standpoint of every nation should rule its own affairs, without having to go to another nation cap in hand (if you’ll pardon me) for either money or power. And I can see absolutely nothing in the No campaign’s facts and figures that inclines me to believe it’s not possible for Scotland to be independently successful. I guess I’m at least as clever as David Cameron. So, I support an independent Scotland. A Scotland that can thrive. Not to line its own pockets, but to afford us the financial resource to be as compassionate in our acts as we already are in our minds and hearts. A Scotland that has the voice and drive and resource to be the nation it truly once was, and in fact, always has been.
