So we were at the airport last night, found out our flight was delayed 3 1/2 hrs. As most of you know my Ddaughter has Autism plus she has Epilepsy. Well, she didnt like it that we couldnt get on a plane for a while and had one of the worst melt downs in public that I have seen her have with screaming at the top of her lungs, hitting, kicking, bighting for what seemed the longest 20 minutes ever. While Kristy then took Sam for a ride on a wheel chair to help calm her down which we ended up taking turns for the next 2 hrs or so, I notice a pretty deturbed women at the counter at our gate with a Police Officer talking about us. I then went over and asked if there was a problem, she said yes your child whats wrong with her? I said she has Autism, Epilepsy and if you know anything about both, you would know she isnt liking/understanding the fact our plane is delayed, I then sayed though this is one of the worst if not the worst public out burst I have seen her have, she will calm down. She then said well I am a former Flight Attendant and your child acting like that is going to put everyone on your flight at risk and danger and that she shouldnt be flying. I then said she is already calming down and that she has never had a problem at all flying and that our flight wasnt for another 2 1/2 hrs, she is just upset that the plane isnt here for us to board at the time it supposed to be. She then repeated herself and then added you need to medicate her or something, I then said she is medicated, she is already calming down, I know my kid and you dont, you need to mind your own damn business. The Police Officer then pulled me away and said to me, just walk away, I am on your side on this just please walk away... So I did. He ended up taking that women back to her gate and stayed with us until we boarded our plane. Though I am shaking as I am typing this and reliving this, I hope all of you know and understand what Autism and Epilepsy is. If you dont, please educate yourself for Autism effects 1 and every 40 kids today. I am not writing to have anyone feel sorry for me, my kids or my family but to feel sorry for people like that lady last night. The overwhelming support we got from people on the Columbus and Cleveland flights was unbelievable. 2 ladys that happended to be Special Education Teachers came over and cried with us, 1 person brought over some chips and sodas. The 1 Teacher knew Samantha was having a seizure. I dont know if any of those kind people will ever see this or not but we cant thank them enough for all the support!
