So were in the recording studio yesterday, laying down some - TopicsExpress

So were in the recording studio yesterday, laying down some full-band tracks. The arrangement and the performances are coming together nicely, but theres still something kinda off. My 78 P-bass goes out of tune sometimes (the neck joint has some slop in in it) so I took a pass with the ol Hondo II. Still the same feeling of uneasiness. I went back to the P & we got the keeper drum and guitar tracks, so i figured Id just redo the whole bass line. I tuned between every take and the open strings & 5th and 12th frets were all in tune. So…I must be playing wrong somehow. Great for ye olde confidence. I set up in the control room, tuned up, and started to take a pass. Garbage. I unplugged my Korg Pitchblack tuner, and plugged in my guitar players identical tuner. I was about 1/4 sharp on every string. Apparently I managed to recalibrate my tuner to go slightly sharp. For how long this has been the case, I dont know. My apologies to everyone Ive been torturing with our live shows these past few weeks. Its just hard to hear that kind of deviation in a live onstage mix, as opposed to the studio. On the plus side, once I realized I wasnt losing my mind, I nailed the take on the first try. (well, if I can count that as the first try).
