So....what are the actual logistics involved in putting a museum exhibit together in just under two months?? It starts with the physical dimensions. In this case, I will have 12 panels and a large piece of wall space. The panels are 40 inches wide and 48 inches high. The theme for the exhibit, to be presented with my good friend and outstanding surf / skate photographer Jon Steele, is Lenses of Aloha . The exhibit will feature our vision of the North Shore - captured this past winter season. Next step is to devise a theme for each of the twelve panels. I did this yesterday. Here are my selections: Pipe Masters - contest general and BEST surf shots Pipe Masters - Kelly Slater (Pipe Masters winner) Pipe Masters - John John Florence (Triple Crown winner) Pipe Masters - Mick Fanning (ASP World Champion) Pipeline - free surfing best pics Pipeline - free surfing best pics Rocky Point - free surfing best pics Sunset Point - Paddle Out for Alan Byrnes Female Surfers of the North Shore Jimbo Hail Yeah Yarborough Aerial Shots of the North Shore Photographers of the North Shore Today, I began the task of going through tens of thousands of photos from the Pipeline Masters to pull shots for the first three panels - in and out of the water - of Kelly, Mick and John John. This process alone took four hours. JUST to assemble a POOL of photos. The next step will be to cull those down to 20 or 30 of the very best images. This will likely consume the rest of my day today. Then, I have to have to conceptualize the design of panels. Another couple of hours for that. Next, I have to edit the images to fit the dimensions of the panel concept. Then, the images have to be printed, mounted on mount board, and then assembled on the painted plywood custom panels - which will have to be cut, sanded, built and painted before attaching the photos. Repeat eleven times over... Piece of cake. But, I wont be doing much else for the next two months. Oh, except for two or three TGSA contests, the Old Guys Surf Reunion in Surfside and a wedding in two weeks, and a surf trip in May... ;)
