So what is IVIG?? Lots have asked... we have been trying to understand more about it...so this is what we understand at least we think Immune globulin is a blood product that is administered intravenously. It contains the pooled polyvalent, igG Antibodies extracted from the plasma from over 1000 donors. Its is used to treat a few different things primarily immune deficiencies. So will Brayden get sicker while doing IVIG no he shouldnt... he should actually feel great...minus the nasty side effects Now to better understand.. The idea is to trick his blood to stop producing antibodies. In 2010 he received a human donor valve as his pulmonary valve...he has extra antibodies from that...then when he was on ECMO and received 105 units of blood products he has even more antibodies... reason why he really never gets sick with a cold...but also more importantly the reason he will reject a new heart... the idea is that IVIG will trick his antibodies so the stop producing and they go away...it could take months for this to happen maybe even longer than a year, to get him to a big ZERO... then once we get him to a lower % and even zero..then we will have a better chance to find his perfect match.
