So whatever negotiations were going on to continue Dallas, have failed. This is a SYMPTOM of age discrimination in advertising. Look at all the recently canned series....because the ratings were low in the 18-49 demographic. Networks have resorted to more and more reality type programming because they are cheap to produce. Advertisers refuse to invest their money in programming that doesnt draw huge numbers of viewers in the golden 18-49 demo. I have read a number of articles by marketing experts who state that advertisers need to revise their target markets to reflect current viewing trends. Thats TRUE and its up to US, the viewers, the CONSUMERS, to let all parties know that we are tired of them dictating programming to us. WE buy the products. WE pay their bills. WE should get a return on OUR investment. THAT RETURN should be programming that WE prefer....NOT what is chosen FOR us. I dont know if Dallas will be picked up again but if there is a movie, that will likely KILL any future chances. I think it is imperative that we shift our energy and effort toward fighting the discrimination that keeps great shows off our screens. I believe we can do this with enough support. I think we need to reach out to other fan groups, like LONGMIRE, Witches of.....(sorry...I should have looked up the correct name, but many of you are familiar), and a host of other shows that have fallen prey to the low 18-49. We need to join forces and stand up to this once and for all, WHO AGREES? WHO IS WILLING TO SHIFT GEARS? Ideas are welcome!
