So when I was around 25 I left my abusive husband and lived in a shelter in Shiprock for a few weeks. I met a really kind lady from Bitter water clan and she taught me how to cook really awesome with barely any food. I remember one day she took spam and made gravy with it and rice. I was sort of disgusted at first, and I remember being amazed at her hands and how fast she could make the dough into a tortilla. I thought she was so blessed... Because she had this gift to take all the love she had and make slop into fine dining. We all have gifts even if we dont realize it. I still throw that meal together sometimes to help me remember where Ive been and where Im going. Experiences are lessons ...relish them.
