So when I was at the dentist last week, they took my blood - TopicsExpress

So when I was at the dentist last week, they took my blood pressure. The dentist looked at it, and said, You should make an appointment to go see a doctor. Today. 180/120, folks. This would be considered a hypertensive crisis, except that for whatever reason, my body was tolerating the situation without having (yet) developed any eye or organ damage. Anyway, I made it to the doctor the next morning, and they put me on an ACE inhibitor, and told me to log my BP twice a day and come back in a week for a checkup and blood tests. For whatever reason, the medicine is AMAZINGLY effective for me. Within a day, my BP was reduced to 140/100, which is still quite high, but an amazing change for a modest dose of a single drug. I got the results of the blood test today, and as far as the tests can tell, I havent suffered any systemic damage from the hypertension so far. However, all my lipid readings were outside the acceptable ranges, so I need to improve my diet, start taking some supplements, and start exercising again. The doctor chose not to put me on a statin (yet), instead waiting to see how I do in cleaning up my act over the next couple months first. Frustratingly though, over the same time period I have been dealing with the doctor, I have also been dealing with lower back pain from what is probably a herniated disc, which so far has made working out NOT AN OPTION. The last two days have been a little better, so I hope that by next week I can get started. Getting back into the gym was already on my list of things to do, but this whole saga has kind of lit a fire under my ass about it.
