So which grocery store in town cares most about providing honest service to their customers? Not Sobeys. Tonight I was shopping and purchased a product on sale. The product was not marked as a sale item and rang in higher on the cash. I pointed this out to the cashier and her supervisor adjusted the price to the sale price. But here is the catch. According to the grocers code of ethics if an un-marked item rings in higher than the cost, then the customer is to receive this item for free up to a total of $10. This is the practice as Zehrs - they will automatically give the item to you for free. So, I thought about and then mentioned my concern to the cashier - she could not help me. So i went to the supervisor. Sobeys policy - only give the incorrectly priced to the customer for free IF the customer can quote the code of ethics to the supervisor. Extraordinarily disappointing that this large organization cannot abide by the standard set by their peers. So Orangevillians….. if the price is wrong… remember to quote the code.
