So with all the talk now days about why we dont get the respect that other professions do, is it the money? Is it that we arent unioned? Is it this? Is it that? Ill share a story and maybe answer it. I just saw an EMT student who was riding with a crew doing her clinicals and as the patient was loaded into the ambulance for transport. The student CLIMES UP INTO THE PASSENGER SEAT WITH THE EMT WHO IS DRIVING! THIS above all else is the reason our profession is declining. The work ethic of todays students pales in comparison to the students of the past. Only a few actually want to be EMTS or Paramedics. The rest are just here to skate by so they get a job that will be steady and easy to find. They just want an easy degree. They have no interest in helping people or making a difference. Not all mind you, I cant enclose everyone in this categorization, but theres enough for serious lamentation of what the future holds.
