So with the release of the new Macs, I think its time for me to retire my 2007 black MacBook. Ive been using it like a desktop; its attached to a 24 1080p Sony Bravia, an old Apple keyboard, and a Logitech wireless mouse. Its served me well for the first five years of its life, but over the last two years its really been struggling. Ive had to replace its hard drive, and its got no battery life to speak of. Ive actually removed it altogether. Pages take forever to load, and it requires a lot of restarting. It cant handle anything more than OS X Snow Leopard, and increasingly the new apps and programs coming out cant run on old OSs like this. In other words, I really need to retire it (and this keyboard, too). Given that I already have the 1080p Bravia, I was thinking of replacing it with a Mac Mini, with the goal of being able to use it through 2020 or 2021. Six to seven years of service. These are the specs and what the ports look like. The logic here was that I wanted to buy the most advanced Mac CPU and graphics card, even if I dont initially buy the most memory or flash or fusion drives - because those other parts are not soldered on to the board (to my knowledge). They can actually be swapped out when prices go down in the future. This Mac will cost about $1,150 before taxes. Its a lot of cash, and gives me sweats thinking about how much it is, but I think because it lends itself easily for expansion, its a good investment. Anybody have thoughts on this? Note: I will not buy a PC and I dont wanna build a Hackintosh.
