So yes I am getting ready for the Glacier Valley Rotary Talk on Wednesday. This is a link to their site: clubrunner.ca/Portal/Home.aspx?accountid=912 The talk is about 20 minutes long, I will be talking about easy to reach places in the Juneau Area that have been lost over time. Juneau trails exist because of mining, plain and simple. The locations of the mines, and ruins have been lost over time. Sure some of us go off trail looking but many of us do not. Why? We might get lost, hurt, eaten by a bear. With GPS on every smart phone, it now makes it possible for us to be safer when exploring off the beaten path. I will be talking about the Douglas 5th Street dam, East Glacier Trail Alaska Juneau Power Plant, and the Old Civilian Conservation Camp/1000 yard Rifle Range and the Mendenhall Prospect. (About 5 minutes each) with questions to follow. Here is a taste of what I will be showing... These 2 pictures are of the same thing.. about 100 years apart.
