So yesterday, Amelias pediatrician helped me collect her saliva sample to send for genetic testing to see if she has the same genetic mutation that caused her sisters heart disease. The test kit included two swabs, and a test tube. I assumed that I would need help in making sure I got a good sample ie. holding Amelia down. Turns out swabbing her cheeks was the easy part. It took us nearly an hour of swabbing cheeks then wringing out the swab to collect the saliva it soaked up in the vial that they sent, enough to fill to the line. Im fairly certain in my heart that Amelia is not carrying the same mutation that Ellie did, but since cardiomyopathy can rear its extremely ugly head at anytime, a un mutated TPM1 gene will totally give me peace of mind and I can find something else crazy to worry about as her mom... like if her poop is a normal color.
