So yesterday Matt and I realized weve already been dating for a year and a half (which I know isnt that long, but to some its a good milestone), and it made me think back to every person who ever said that the honeymoon phase would have been long over after the first three months. Saying that we would fight all the time, would stop going on dates, stop flirting or start becoming attracted to other people. Fortunately they were wrong, and I know its because we learned to be one anothers best friend, to be comfortable with one another, not play games with how were feeling, and more importantly, we dont take the easy way out and break up on and off when things get hard. I feel like thats something people take for granted now, is that you CAN make your relationship work out if you love that person and they treat you well. Theyve become victims of laziness, victims of greed by wanting the next best thing. Sometimes a committed and long-term relationship isnt for everyone, and thats okay. But if you really want to strive to be with someone for awhile and know its what you want, you become understanding, become a listener and someone who you would want to see in your partner as well. Relationships are a team effort that require trust and loyalty while fulfilling both persons wants and needs, not a one person project that only serves the purposes of an individual.
