So, yesterday after a wonderful rehearsal of the Weber Concerto with my friend, the great Milan Turkovic, conducting the fabulous Orchestra of St. Lukes, it became apparent that there would be no soloist to rehearse the Hummel Bassoon Concerto. It will be performed tonight, as will my Weber. That soloist is the winner of this years Gillett/Fox Competition, but the winner had yet to be announced! So, with much advance apologies from yours truly, I did my best to play through it. Milan and the orchestra were very understanding. What a privilege to get to play with such artists for another hour. And, I figured I had room on the slag heap of clams Ive made over my career! And I had fun! Glad Ive continued to practice scales, thirds and arpeggios!!!!
