So, yesterday at church we were asked to bring our shadowboxes. These are an encased memento of all your military achievements. Well, my glass broke some time ago, but it doesnt bother me. I have a living shadow box. That is a very close group of people who, at every place I served, are the living momentos, of the connections I made while serving my country. For instance: Yvette Hart we will celebrate 32 years of friendship and family love, I met her the night I reported for boot camp January 2 1981, we were in the same boot camp company, went to our first duty station USS Frank Cable (as the first female crew)and lived off base in the same apartment complex, never lost each other, still together after all these years... Janice McCray-Washington I met her April 23 1985 in Rota Spain, my second duty station, my roommate, taught me to really cook! To this day we share our lives (she is truly a soul mate)... Ursula McGuire, Oose USS Yellowstone 1987 my adventurous road dog from Italy to Sicily, inspired me to be my own woman and have my own style, awesome independent woman of means.. Sophia Sills- Tailor my ride or die I met her June 1988 USS Yellowstone, she was 19 years old, if you know me you know Sophie...... Talika Green June 1988 as well all things New York, keeps it real the first person to ever consider me a surrogate mother, still my girl! Janel Robbins and Kathy Pritchard 1988 and 1989 my baby boats, two young women that hung on my every word, hard working (and playing :)) young women fresh from their mamas homes to my hands, love you two... Lora Grant Jackson, 1988 what can I say, to this day I would still have cut that guy for you (you know what I am talking about). Adventured many a European roads with you :)In turn this is the person God used to put me and my wonderful husband together. Inspired me to give my life to Christ, the first time... Mary Yee Page June 1991 one of the bravest and smartest woman I have ever met, though your life was cut short, you inspired me to be the best mother and Chief I could be.... Patricia Gregg-Bryant January 1995 while we were together only the last 3 years of your life, I feel like I knew you all my life. Tears still flow from my heart missing you and Mary. WE HAD A BLAST PAT!!!! Hopefully we will again on the other side.... My daughter as if you really came from my womb Jatauan Jackson, I birthed you on the USS Whidbey Island December 1997, a beautiful spirit, intelligent, loving, all the things I dreamed a biological daughter would be.. Michelle Bradford SIMA October 1998 Norfolk my last stop in the Navy, you inspired me and kept me calm in times of real storms, your confidence in me helped me in those last years before retirement... My shadowbox gives me real memories of an outstanding Navy career and a lifetime of Sisterhood, (and brothers that carried me too) love and friendship to carry me for the rest of my life. Happy Veterans Day! I love you all very, very much!!!
