So yesterdays question of the day brought forth a tart but laughable email in which someone actually claimed responsibility for such a childish act . I never would have imagined there was someone stupid and self centered enough out there to claim it but hey, it takes all types to make a world, right? Anyway it was all but demanded that I remove my post. FAT CHANCE! Heres my reply. You may believe you can tell others what they can or cant do but you cant control me. I have always stood up to injustice and like Tom Petty, I wont back down! If someone sets up an association where members are to adhere to guide lines, then bylaws need to be made and voted on by members and properly elected officials. Those bylaws also have to be enforced by the members and elected officials and not by one guy who says Im the president, I can do what I want. This entire rant is over the fact that someone got an account away from you. Not whether it was done ethically or not. If it was that simple to take your account Id say it was less because of the way the competition approached the client and more because of the way you treated them. Your tactics finally came back and bit you in the ass. To quote your own words when you stole a long time steady employee away from another business, Its just business man, just business Lets face fact. Nobody likes competition but its a fact of life and we all have to deal with it. I continually have people come to my shop and pump me for free information and test drives then go buy the product elsewhere. Nine times out of ten they end up paying more for the product and then come back to me when it fails wanting me to warranty the repairs or to tell them over the phone how to fix it for free to avoid paying me for my time or knowledge. Sound familiar A**HOLE? I smile and suggest sending it back to the web site or big box they bought it from. Now wheres the competition? Competition will always be a never ending battle. Ive seen direct competition come & go but Im still here. Why? Well luckily I dont depend on this business for money. I do it because I love it. No competition will ever force me out. When I close my doors it will be because I chose to and as I age I realize that day draws ever closer. I loved being a DJ, Ive always loved talking shop with other DJs. Ive always enjoyed helping other DJs if I could and God willing, I will continue to champion the DJ trade. Ive always done my best to maintain the highest integrity and never sell something to someone that they dont need even though it costs me money. And the one pleasure of owning my own business is I can choose not to deal with those whom I feel lack integrity. I know that type of business ethic will eventually reward me. If you dont believe that then read my testimonials on my web page. I didnt make those up. So Mr. A**Hole I suggest if you dont like the way other DJs compete with you then Id suggest you either learn to deal with the fact that people, especially DJs, will always be concerned with taking care of #1 even if it means stepping on your toes. A DJ association which advertises Open to All Event Professionals means just that regardless of who is your minion or who you feel has wronged you. If you cant accept that and still refuse to open your eyes to see how you have wronged others then I suggest you do exactly as your childish me, me, me behavior dictates. Take your damn football and go home!
