So you noticed someone crying yesterday and you took the time to stop and ask “what’s wrong” and you felt good about that. When they told you what was wrong you replied “oh that’s too bad. Well, good luck and things will get better” and walked away. As you walked away you saw them resume crying but what you didn’t see was someone else whose arms were wrapped around them in love and compassion and although He is crying too, even harder than they are, He still looked up at you and glared rather fiercely because He isn’t tolerant of a job less than even half done and He isn’t tolerant of the arrogant blasphemy of claiming to know what only He could possibly know. But even more than that He knows when He’s been disrespected. The ironic thing is that things will “get better” when someone receives genuine love. So I never say “things will get better” or “I hope things will get better.” Instead I say “what can I/we do to make things better for you?” Jesus is a healer and being Christlike means to heal and because you didn’t just walk away leaving empty words that never help instead of a glare you will hear Him say “well done my good and faithful servant.” In this way the final judgment is now and we are judged by that very same criteria of “the least of these”. His heart is big enough to hold the pain of all humanity and He will open ours up to do the same. He can heal us in this way. Vince Capman January 2006
