Soccer Confederate Cup good for the economy of Brazilian cities Brazilians and foreign tourists who are visiting the six host-cities of the FIFA 2013 Confederations Cup will spend more than US$ 156 million during the 15 days of competition. The calculation was done by the Brazilian Tourism Board (Embratur), based on the number of tourists and the length of stay in cities that are hosting the games. “These figures show that these major sporting events had a direct impact on our local economy. An important part of these funds goes directly to the local merchants, street vendors and small entrepreneurs”, says the president of Embratur, Flavio Dino. Dino highlights that throughout the Confederations Cup, which occurred during the period of the civil manifestations, there were no incidents involving foreign tourists. Additionally, the Brazilian Association of Tour Operators (Braztoa) has made a statement saying that there were no travel cancellations. “Tourism in Brazil flows normally,” says Dino. Regarding the financial return of major events, Embratur estimates that the value will be much higher during the 2014 World Cup. “The Confederations Cup is an event that mobilizes the domestic audience, as a test for the FIFA World Cup 2014, when we’ll really receive a massive number of tourists,” he says. The total spending of foreign tourists during the Confederations Cup is estimated to be US$ 34,9 million. Brazilian tourists will spend US$ 86 million during the fifteen days of the tournament. Additionally the delegations and teams will spend nearly US$ 35 million. Article by: Global Travel Industry News
