Social Climber Im an avid fan of this page though Im not from your university. Also, im not being boastful but im studying in a well-known university here in the Philippines. Social climber per se is the person who is eager to gain a higher social status. Speaking in English in public does not justify that youre a total social climber, BUT it can be one of the factor. How do I say so? In our society, it is obvious that some people who talks or speak in English are those high profile person like businessman, foreigner etc, also just like from what I have read in terms of students, those people who studied on some well-known school, specifically Ateneo and La Salle. Im not saying that those people are an example of social-climber because it is clear to us that they deserve to talk in that way. But the point here is that those people who speaks, talks, preach using English language and they dont speak it well and they know that theyre committing mistake but they are continuously speaking, well I think thats the point where we can call them as Social-climbers. There is no problem if the person is started practicing English, that is acceptable and not questionable. But let us admit that some of us speak just to look smart and to fit our self to others. They frequently talk in a wrong way like Hey! Im gonna buy a shoes na. Can you make sama to me? Is that the right way to express it? Thats a shame. It is very inappropriate in English Language Communication. If you really want to speak in public, make sure that youre delivering it fluently and straight. Its not wrong to add or to combine it with other language but observe your speaking manner, and know how to spill it in correctly and without any artistic way. This is a world with full of judgmental people so be mindful or your words and act. PS: Its not necessary to study in some famous schools just for you to have a license to speak in English. You just need to believe and courage. Any school, if it is an institute, vocational schools, college, university as long as you have your eagerness to learn then never stop trying. PSS: To the second confessor about being a social climber. You spill your thoughts wrong. I think youre the one whos a perfect example of social climber. Just kidding.
