Social Worker TOR Advert Duty station: Burao, Togdheer region Closing date: 05/07/2014 Number of positions: 4 Positions Contract Duration: TBC Organizational Profile in Summary The Somaliland Youth Development and Voluntary Organizations (SOYDAVO) were established as a non-governmental organization in 2003 under the NGO Coordination Act of Somaliland. Our headquarters is located in the city of Burao, with regional satellite offices in Erigavo, Las Anod, and Oodweyne. Our target beneficiaries are the vulnerable and marginalized communities of Somaliland in the Togdheer, Sanaag, and Sool regions; with our main priority being the improvement of their economic and social well-being. Job Summary SOYDAVO is preparing to launch a three year project on reduction and mitigation of gender-based violence for which it is currently recruiting 4 social workers. The social workers are responsible with the implementation and monitoring of project activities in relation to the targeted communities. This includes awareness raising, mobilization, gathering information, profiling the project areas, and also communicating with beneficiaries in order to deliver the project contents and activities to them. Moreover, social workers are responsible with compiling reports on the progress of the project activities and arising challenges. A strong level of English is required as well as working experience in GBV protection activities is advantage, the social workers will use tools that allow them to communicate and work with the community smoothly. Lead Social workers (1 Position) The Lead social worker will be responsible of developing project activities work plans, monitoring and implementation of the Community activities in the project area. • Plan, design and monitor the overall implementation activities plan (weekly and monthly) in target villages in the project Area. • Work closely with Project manager, other social workers to sensitize community members to GBV related issues. • Assist Project Management in identification of peer educators and influential members of the community who can activate change. • Assist the other social workers in daily project management and implementation as required and notify the project manager immediately when issues arise. • Compile and prepare quality progress reports in weekly and monthly basis, as well as assisting in compiling the quarterly and final reports and feed into other information as required by the Project manager. • Conduct meeting with project stakeholders and share with them project progress and case studies. • Develop training ICT material for the awareness and mobilization raising campaigns. • Closely work with other social workers, stakeholders and develop good working relationship with them to carry out project implementation effectively. • Take part in community mobilization; planning, implementation of the awareness activities. • Making follow ups the project on going activities and prepares evaluation reports on quarterly basis. • Taking and Collecting minutes of the project staff meetings concerning issues in the project activities. • Carrying out other tasks associated with the project and the management team as assigned to. Trainer Social workers (2 Positions) The trainer social workers will be responsible for organizing and conducting community training activities in the project area. • Organize and conduct the training activities for the community target beneficiary members in the project area. • Conduct training appraisals • Organize and facilitate trainings on the harmful effects of GBV for community members and project beneficiaries. • Prepare training reports and provide regular updates to project manager. • Monitoring and reviewing the progress of trainees through questionnaires and discussions with trainees and project beneficiary. • Produce training materials for community and target beneficiaries • Work under the supervision of lead social workers and work closely with other social workers in the implementation and delivery activities. • Make fellow up to the beneficiary of the project to assess their behavioral changes • Collecting successful stories • Conducting and organizing meetings, workshops and seminars activities as planned in the project area. Psychosocial Support Social worker (1 Position) As a part of project is to provide a guidance and counseling support to beneficiaries and as well as the parents of children in the project area, Psychosocial support social worker will give and support the counseling and guidance activities in the project area with successful implementation of all psychosocial and develop behavior changing activities. • Provide counseling and guidance to parents to understand their role and responsibilities in their children and society. • Work closely with other social workers in the implementation of the project activities. • Conduct and organize psychosocial activities in the project area and develop behavioral changing activities. • Make fellow ups to the behavior changes come to the project beneficiaries • Collecting case studies • Carry out any other duties assigned to Other general Roles and Responsibilities for social workers • Information gathering and analysis throughout the project activities. • Preparing reports as required, based on extensive and accurate information gathering and analysis the situation of the villages; dissemination of training contents. • Community mobilization; planning, implementation of the awareness activities. • Ensuring accurate communication: Providing appropriate information and disseminating accurate messages to the beneficiaries and the project stakeholders. • Translation of project information and materials from English to Somali. • Organizing all project activities towards the stakeholders of the project and the problem • Follow up of SOYDAVO village agencies focal point during their duties and report the progress and status of their performance, achievement and challenges. • Participate the designing a magazine, articles and other publications of the their work during their observations and monitoring Qualifications • Bachelor Degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, education or any other related fields is strongly required. • Ability to craft activity and financial reports in a clear and compelling manner is essential. • Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. • Candidates must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and highly-organized, and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information. • A high level of computer literacy required, including familiarity with communication tools and manners to communicate with beneficiaries. • A solid understanding of Somali culture as they relate to the project activities and its beneficiaries. • Have strong Facilitation skills • Knowledge and experience working on gender-based violence or related is highly desired. • Good command of written and spoken English How to Apply: Please submit your updated CV and Cover Letter, three reference contacts and salary requirements in US dollars to soydavo2003@yahoo or [email protected].
