Social media can do a lot of good. Empower the common man and mobilise the masses for a good effort. But sometimes, it can cause malicious stupidity. A ripple that can cause unexpected harm far beyond the expectation of the user. I for one do not believe this allegation to be true. And its a very serious allegation. It outright accuses one of the most prominent and successful local businesses of a crime that borders on inhumanity. But normally, I let it pass. I am just a nobody and the big boys I am sure can take good care of themselves. But this allegation and its kind has far reaching consequences. It may cause people to stop donating. It may cause people to not work with the authorities. Many might take it upon themselves to do things without coordination with the relevant authorities. This hampers the national effort of flood relief. A post like this may not have any effect on the writer. But it may mean a child may not get his first meal in 4 days. It may mean an elderly will be deprived of her medication. Or a family of much needed clothing. It may mean that food gets wasted because people refuse to cooperate, believing in this post. It could mean so many things. Of negative impact founded on an assumption that is based on political bias. The writer of this post as I have seen has done quite alot for the flood effort. But I do wonder, has it been undone by just this simple post. And if he is so sure about his allegation, then he should do something about it in the proper manner. File a police report or something. If he has the proof and the evidence, I am sure many of us would stand behind him in support. But if its a false allegation, I wonder, will he be the one bearing the consequences? Its a cliché, but with great powers, come great responsibilities. We cannot have one without the other.
