SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend Warrens still undefeated 9/10/2013 WARRENS Sports Club came from a set down to keep their unbeaten streak alive, as the Goddard’s Enterprises Senior Knock Out Volleyball competition continued on Sunday. Three rescheduled women’s games were played on Sunday at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, and Warrens came up against Deacons in the third game of the evening. Many may have thought that they were in for a thrilling five set game, after the first set saw both teams trading points. Deacons emerged victorious in this set 25-22, but Warrens came storming back leading from the onset of the second set, as Deacons struggled to mount any consistent offence along with unforced errors. Warrens cruised to an easy set victory 25-15. Warrens’ impressive streak continued in the third set, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the start. However Deacons went on a 5-0 streak to go ahead briefly in the set. But Warrens took back the lead by the first technical time out, 8-6, and once again pulled away from Deacons, who struggled once again to break their serve. With Warren ahead 14-8, Deacons’ break came on a scramble play, which found Warrens out of position on defence. Deacons had a late surge of their own, closing the seven point gap to within three points, but Warrens did not let them get any closer and closed out the third set 25-21. With Deacons playing to stay alive in the game, the fourth set started out similar to the third, and that ended with Warrens jumping out to an early lead, 5-1. However, Deacons did not let the advantage grow much further, and went on a 7-0 run which gave them the lead, 15-12. The see-saw battle continued as it was Warrens’ turn to bounce back, and they moved ahead 19-17. This nail biting battle saw the scores locked at 20 and then at 23. But the winning point came as Julia Lewis, who was in back court, watched a ball go by, as she thought it was going to be long, to give Warrens a 25-23 victory. Warrens, after losing the first set, won the next three and game. In the early games, Rockets defeated the Club 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-14, while Toners defeated Carlton 25-14, 25-23, 14-25, 23-25, 15-8. (CG)
