Socialist Greetings on May Day! To mark this historic day of international working class solidarity, the International Committee of the Fourth International and the World Socialist Web Site have called an International Online Rally for this coming Sunday, May 4. The rally will be held at 11:00 am US Eastern Time and broadcast simultaneously throughout the world. Since the WSWS announced the online rally one month ago, there has been an extraordinary response from readers and supporters all over the world. This will be a truly global event. So far, workers and young people from more than 60 countries on every continent (except Antarctica) have registered. One registrant from Sri Lanka summed up a sentiment expressed by many when he wrote, This is an opportunity for the international working class to get together and participate in the most important event in history so far. As WSWS International Editorial Board Chairman David North explained in a perspective published last month, the online rally will reclaim the revolutionary socialist traditions of May Day. The crucial significance of this task is clear in light of the political context in which the rally will be held. One hundred years after the beginning of World War I and 75 years after the beginning of World War II, the danger of global war once again looms over humanity. The United States and Germany are intensifying their campaign against Russia over the crisis in Ukraine, which began with a right-wing coup organized in Washington. The reckless and incendiary actions of imperialism threaten to provoke the first war between nuclear-armed powers in history. The international working class must take a stand! It is time fight back against war and the irrational and historically bankrupt capitalist system that creates it. It is time to fight back against the relentless attack on democratic rights. It is time to fight back against a society in which wealth is monopolized and the entire economy controlled by a tiny elite, a society in which the wealthiest 85 individuals now control more assets than the poorest half of the worlds population! Speakers from around the world will include: David North, Chairman of the WSWS International Editorial Board and Socialist Equality Party (US) National Chairman Peter Schwarz, Secretary of the International Committee of the Fourth International Nick Beams, National Secretary of the SEP (Australia) Wije Dias, General Secretary of the SEP (Sri Lanka) Joseph Kishore, National Secretary of the SEP (US) Chris Marsden, National Secretary of the SEP (UK) Julie Hyland, Assistant National Secretary of the SEP (UK) James Cogan, Assistant National Secretary of the SEP (Australia) Andre Damon, National Secretary (US) of the International Youth and Students for Social Equality These speakers will address the basic political questions that confront the working class internationally and outline a program for a world socialist movement against war, inequality and dictatorship. Dont miss this unique and historic event! Make plans to join us on Sunday. Register today at internationalmayday.org. Sincerely, The Socialist Equality Party
