Socialization is a social learning. It is not an intermittent but a continuous process ; a process through which our inborn qualities or latent powers are improved and our personality is developed. Here , Education has both manifest (open and stated) and latent (hidden) functions to play. The basic manifest function of the education is communication of information and te transmission of knowledge through a curriculum. In fact , Educational system emphasize how schools , colleges and universities contribute to the socialization of individuals within a meritocratic society in which occupational and social role are determined by sheer talent and abilities rather than by any other ascribed status. Besides socialization , Education allocates the role that individual will continue to play when they complete their educational courses. It prepares the student for future occupational positions so that the youth can play productive roles. We learn punctuality , discipline ,scheduling , and responsible work habits , as well as how to negotiate our way through the complexities of bureaucratic organizations. In this way , the educational institutions serve as a transitional agent of formal means of social control -between parents and employers. Education promotes healthy competition and legitimizes the position of individuals in the social ranking. it maintains the social equilibrium . The educational system fosters participatory democracy which is very much influenced by the literacy. in fact , literacy allows full participation of people in the electioneering process. Education also performs latent functions like transmitting of culture , promoting social and political integration , maintaining self control , and serving as agents of change. It promotes political integration by transforming a population composed of diverse racial , ethnic, and religious groups into a society whose members share - to some extent- a common identity. (Here culture refers to a set of beliefs and skills , art , literature , philosophy , religion , music etc. - they are not transmitted through te mechanism of heredity ) Besides value-based education , education also imparts empirical knowledge (based on experience , observation , or experimentation). This creates rational faculty and modern outlook with scientific temperament. But at the same time , if the education system becomes superfluous and ineffective then ignorance , confusion and superstition prevails. The educational system may be damaged by 2 major factors : 1. Irrational curriculum 2. Overemphasis on bookish knowledge. The utilitarian character of education tends to tarnish the ethical values . It may be easily observed that in the absence of meaningful human values , the life of modern educated people has become more mechanical and materialistic and the whole purpose of life and knowledge seems to be lost.. Education imparts the ability to ask questions and then the basis to find answers. In democracy , education is the guiding force. An individual , in a democratic system , only knows to balance between the rights and responsibilities through his experience and learning imparted by the education. today , we can clearly see the growing desperation among the people and it reflects in their driving , talking , thinking , writing , voting , discussions and overall , in their relation with each-other. The entire edifice of the social relationships is in jeopardy. The behavioral predictability has gone down and a sense of insecurity has been generated , marking our entire life with uncertainties. In the absence of proper curriculum and predominance of mechanical studies , the whole philosophy of life has been confused. Ideal education removes confusion and imbibes confidence but if the educational system is partial , confused and moribund , then nobody can remove the confusion and denigration of the behavioral pattern .
