#Society #Academy Honorary Award Japanese filmmaker #Hayao Miyazaki wins honorary award Celebrities have toasted the first Oscar winners of the award season at the film academy’s sixth annual Governors Awards Saturday night. Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, Irish-born actress Maureen O’Hara, French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrire were presented honorary awards and American actor and activist Harry Belafonte accepted the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Miyazaki is the second Japanese to win the Academy Honorary Award, after Akira Kurosawa in 1990. An Oscar winner for his 2002 film, Spirited Away, Miyazaki has produced popular works such as My Neighbor Totoro and The Wind Rises. Asked about his contribution to filmmaking, Miyazaki said it was too early to say. I think we probably have to wait about a hundred years to be able to understand that, Miyazaki said.
