Socorro-Maina villagers up in arms against 8 ‘illegal’ houses SoCORRO: Villagers of Socorro-Maina are up in arms against eight alleged illegal houses that have come up on forest land. A total of eight small houses have been constructed in a private property and it is alleged that the land was sold to buyers based on a single sale deed. It is learnt that the private land in the forest area, admeasuring 2400 sqm in survey number 291/4, was sold by demarcating plots (10 in number), each plot admeasuring 240 to 260 sqm to eight parties through a single sale deed. Some have even started staying in the houses built on the land.MLA Rohan Khaunte, after being informed about the illegal houses, along with the deputy collector Shetye, mamlatdar Dasharath and Porvorim PI Vaigankar visited the site to take stock of the alleged illegality.Khaunte, speaking to the media, stated that he will bring the alleged illegality to the notice of the Chief Minister who is in charge of TCP as without sub-division the land was sold merely on the basis of a sale deed document. When some of the owners were asked about the alleged illegality, they said that the villagers were accusing them of being migrants even though some of them are Goans and some outsiders who have been residing in Goa for the last 25 to 30 years. Vijay Chodankar, owner of one of the plots said that whatever savings he had has been spent on the plot by investing ` 6 lakh. Chandrakant Reddar from Karnataka, who has been living in Goa for the last 25 years, stated that earlier he was staying in rented premises with his two children and wife and thereafter he shifted to this house. He said if the house is demolished he will have no place to go. Husain and Krishna, other owners, stated that after paying ` 6 lakh they spent ` 1.5 lakh on construction. “Now we will lose everything,” they said adding that, “the owner cheated us by selling the plots only through a sale deed and assuring us that only small houses can be constructed on the forest land.”Meanwhile, the Porvorim MLA has instructed the deputy collector and mamlatdar to demolish the structures by Monday.Porvorim PI Vaigankar said that the police came to the site only to prevent any law and order problem and that it is a civil matter and the police has no role to play in it. navhindtimes.in/socorro-maina-villagers-arms-8-illegal-houses/
