Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, on Saturday urged members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) especially the youths not to sell their permanent voters cards to desperate politicians ahead of the 2015 elections in the state. This is just as the Speaker of House of Representatives and APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, pledged not to fail the members of the party in the state. Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Sokoto, Wamakko said some desperate politicians in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were buying voters’ cards in some states where the party lacked strong support base. He charged the youths to endeavour to obtain their permanent voters cards and keep away from such desperate politicians so that they could be able to elect credible leaders in 2015. According to him, it would be difficult to effect the desired change in the polity without exercising their franchise; hence the need for them not to sell their voters’ cards to desperate politicians. “We learnt that the PDP is buying permanent voters’ cards in some states where the party is very weak and lacked popular support. So, I am calling on you to obtain the permanent voters’ card and be vigilant. Don’t sell your cards to such desperate politicians,” Wamakko said. Wamakko expressed delight with the outcome of the APC presidential primaries, saying the party did not disintegrate contrary to the expectation of the PDP. He advised party members in the state to go back to the grassroots and propagate the ideals of the APC in order to garner more members. The governor underscored the need for members of the party to join hands together and work assiduously towards ensuring the party’s victory in the 2015 election. “We should go back to our various villages and communities and talk to our brothers and neighbours on the need to embrace the APC. This is the only way we can achieve our goals,” Wamakko added. Meanwhile, Tambuwal assured APC members in the state that he would do whatever it takes to meet their yearnings and aspiration. He pledged to carry along all the APC governorship aspirants that lost the primary election, adding, “I will not discriminate against you but will carry you along in the scheme of things, if we win the 2015 election.”
