Solar Collector Upgrades! Made a bunch of modifications and upgrades today; - Added caster wheels to the legs for easy movement. - Added 2nd solar collector for to-be-treated water to warm up. - Added drainage from evapouration tray back into to-be-treated water reservoir. - Resealed the chamber, it is now air tight(ish). - Added adjustment arm with metrics; thermometer and sundial alignment. I had a go with the new design for about 1 hour using the hand pump, and encounterd a few snags... - It is now essentially a closed system, pumping the water out of the reservoir also sucks water out of the evapouration tray drainage - this is a good thing, but the seal on my hand pump keeps busting off. Time for a pond pump with solar panel I think! - Some issues with potential cross-contamination; I probably need a splash back guard. I also need to properly seal the drainage etc... Performance is getting better, but is still not up to spec. Spray through the beam and onto the tray produces instant evapouration which is visible of the glass chamber. With an on-ff go over about an hour I managed to collect about 10ml into the lower collection vessel. This is about the best haul Ive got yet, but still not good enough... I think with a few tweaks (i.e., sealing it properly and getting a decent pump) and some time for the still to pre-heat I think itll be going well really soon!
