Solar Cookers International partners with Solar Cookers India ! Three day workshop on Solar Cooking for Sustainable Future 21-23 Jan 2015 concluded at Jimmy McGilligan Centre For Sustainable Development , with Julie Greene, the Executive Director of Solar Cookers International announcing the formation of Solar Cookers India to be headed by Dr Mrs Janak Palta McGilligan, as an Honorary Executive Director . During the Valedictory session Ms Greene stated ”Solar Cookers International seeks partnership with Solar Cookers India in the global movement of promoting solar cooking and saving the environment as well as health of 3 billion women cooking on open fire and 4 million women and children dying prematurely from household air pollution. India has abundance of Solar Power and distinguished to have a special Ministry of New & Renewable Energy .What I have seen during my trip to Gujrat and Indore region in Madhya Pradesh, significant initiatives have been taken in the area of Solar Energy but Solar Cooking needs special attention because it is still an underutilized technology. India has to play a lead role in South East Asia in the area of Solar Cooking .I thank Jimmy McGilligan Centre for its outreach efforts for sustainability and hosting this workshop. I am delighted to have interacted with lecturers from many colleges and students from Choith Ram International as well as from Ajmera School Mumbai ,many research scholars, organic farmers & local people during three days workshop here in Sanawadiya. It has been rewarding to see Children attending the workshop today and yesterday so intrigued by solar cooking and quickly grasped its enormous potentials for India’s Environment.” Julie taught children how to make Solar box cooker and they were extremely excited and enjoyed the tour of the Centre by Mrs Nanda and Mr Rajendra Chohan. During her stay Julie visited Jaivik Setu, Barli Institute and village Pivdai and Sanawadiya to see the rural women trained at Jimmy McGilligan Centre, using solar cookers for their domestic use as well income-generation. Julie was accompanied by her husband Charley Cross ,a wonderful Solar Cook, Volunteers of SCI and amazing photographer and Videographer. This world needs more menfolks like Charley Jimmy and Rajendra .
