Solar Energy The panel cost for electric generation has fallen - TopicsExpress

Solar Energy The panel cost for electric generation has fallen so much that a whole new set of economics is relevant even for those in climates that would not seem particularly solar friendly. Today I have started to undertake working with my condo community to take advantage of this new opportunity. Typical solar installations face one of two complexities. Hooking electric power into the home power network for electricity. Hooking a water or fluid based system for hot water generation. Both really are kind of a pain in the ass to do with an inexpensive installation that you can forget about for at least a couple decades. HOWEVER... Attaching the panels to a low voltage resistive element to heat the water in your hot water tank/pool/spa is simple and easy. In many places not even requiring a code inspection. Today putting an electric panel on your roof that just dumps into a resistive element in your hot water heater at low DC voltage is super simple and inexpensive. In a condominium building with a swimming pool/spa and roof with southern exposure. That adds up to real money saved even with NW low cost electricity. The low voltage replacement elements are inexpensive and highly available. Upgrading any dual element hot water heater is a no brainer. hydrogenappliances/hotwater.html
