Solar still makes up only a tiny fraction of overall energy usage on an absolute basis — about 0.17%. But its an unstoppable trend. We would be wise to incentivize the energy producers to embrace this switch sooner rather than later, but maybe it wont make a difference. Maybe the industry will soon be forced there out of sheer economics. But what I really hope Washington and states will do is to create retraining programs to find displaced workers new jobs in the growing clean energy market.
