Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, Apostles IN THE MIDST OF WAR Peter thus was being kept in prison, but prayer by the Church was fervently being made to God on his behalf. – Acts 12:5 How many times have we found ourselves in trouble because of our faith, like Peter was? I remember when our family was still on mission in Timor Leste for Couples for Christ. I was five months pregnant with our first child when a civil war of sorts broke out. Houses and cars were randomly set on fire and fighting broke out among the Timorese because of perceived racial discrimination. Some foreigners also reported their cars being stoned by disgruntled youth, plus other incidents of violence. From our mission house, we could hear gunshots in the distance and see young people armed with knives, sticks and clubs roaming in the streets. During those times of uncertainty and fear, our hearts were still at peace, knowing that our brothers and sisters in the community and the bigger Church were praying for us. We were eventually evacuated out of Timor but, by God’s grace, we returned a few months afterwards. Peace was eventually restored in the country and we continued with our mission, reaping even bigger harvests for the Lord. Tina Santiago-Rodriguez (teachermamatina@gmail) Reflection: When was the last time you prayed for others, especially those in dangerous and trying situations? Make a list of people you can pray for, including the missionaries of the Church. Lord, thank You for all the people who pray for me and my family. Thank You for the gift of Your Church through which all believers are united. Sts. Peter and Paul, Apostles, pray for us. Didache | Companion | Sabbath | Top COMPANION
