Solid Appeal (KY) DK B/, M, foaled February 19, 2009 (Successful Appeal - Star of the Woods, by Woodman) successfully defended her crown with a victory in the 1 mile $200K Grade II Nassau Stakes on the turf at Woodbine Racetrack May 25, 2014. Regular rider Jesse Campbell was able to break Solid Appeal alertly and rated her well down the back stretch and into the far turn. Speedsters Deceptive Vision and Avies Sense went to the front and battle for the lead into that far turn and Why Catherine was traveling well from 3rd and moving to the front along the outside. Solid Appeal moved into contention midway around the turn from between horses and as the field turned for home, Campbell angled her to the outside for her run. Avies Sense had the lead at the top of the lane and Why Catherine was ranging up to challenge for the lead while Deceptive Vision was coming back along the fence. Solid Appeal was gaining steadily along the grandstand side and just got up in time to win by 1/2 length. Why Catherine held 2nd, 3/4 lengths in front of Deceptive Vision in 3rd. Solid Appeal was making just her 2nd start of the year in the Nassau. She put together 3 in a row last year starting with an ALW at Keeneland in April then won the 2013 Nassau and the Dance Smartly both at Woodbine. She has been to the post 19 times with a record of 6-2-3 and she has earned $539,441 for her owners Jim and Susan Hill. Solid Appeal was bred by Select Bloodstock, LLC and she is trained by Reade Baker Racing Stable, Inc.
