Solihull Moors 2 Hemel hempstead Town 1 The Tudors travelled to the midlands on tuesday night to face a good Solihull Moors side who play in the Conference North, manager Dean Brennan was confident that this would be a real test for his side as they continue to build up to the start of the season, which is fast approaching. Hemel (who were without Lewis Toomey and Charlie Mpi who couldnt play because of work commitments) scored on 24 minutes when the Solihull keeper allowed James Pottons weak shot to squirm over him. Up until then it had been Hemel all the way though as Ben Mackey and David Pearce came close with a couple of half chances and shortly after the goal a Jordan Parkes screamer hit the far post and away to safety. On twenty eight minutes however a cross from the left saw the ball handled at the far post, and Moors number 5 sent Laurie Walker the wrong way from the spot for the equaliser. Solihull fans at the break were full of praise for the way Hemel were playing, and this continued in the second half although the match had now settled into a more even affair with the home side kicking down the slope. Walker was forced into a good save just before the hour mark when he tipped a speculative chip around his post, and Mackey was again unlucky when his snapshot was trapped between the home keeper and the post. But on the hour manager Dean Brennan changed the entire side (except for David King) and it took the new line-up a while to find their rythym. With ten minutes left on the clock a mix up in the Hemel defence saw the ball nodded back towards the keeper - the ball slipping past him to hit the post and rebound across goal to the feet of an incoming Moors striker who couldnt miss. It was scant reward for a hardworking performance, but a good workout none the less on a hot balmy night. Brackley next up on Thursday, before a trip to Billericay on Saturday. Manager Dean Brennan said It was our first proper test against a seasoned level 2 side and we learnt plenty from the game. We controlled the ball well in periods but we never created enough clear cut chances for the amount of possession we had. Some of our young players impressed again. As a team we know where we need to improve and its my job to make sure that happens Report thanks to Taps with a bit of tinkering from myself :)
