Solitude is a crucial ingredient to creativity. There is zero correlation between being the best talker and having the best ideas. Why do we make introverts feel so guilty about wanting to go off by themselves some of the time? These are some of the insightful quotes from Susan Cains first #TED speech. They resonate with me in many ways - my ex and his very extroverted family used to give me a hard time (kindly) when I disappeared at each big family function. Theyd call me Milton - after their cat who would always run and hide when people came over. They didnt understand why I did the same. Truth is, I wasnt hiding to be rude on purpose - I just felt a very internal need for a mental timeout. I understand why now, thanks to Susan, her book, QUIET: The Power of Introverts in a World That Cant Stop Talking, and her TED speech.
