Solomon Dalung has this to say; · NATIONAL CONFERENCE WHAT A CONSPIRACY? The on going National conference convocation by President Good luck Jonathan is to discuss the problems of Nigeria but there are no go areas, the unity of the country. This has conference taken the traditional pattern of restrictions on issues to be discussed has prolonged history of either constituents assemblies or national conferences. Since 1957, Nigeria has held nine conferences, this will be the tenth. If all the previous conferences did not address the problems of Nigeria, what difference can this one make? More so, that the delegates of this conference were not elected but selected by the President. Over 70% of the appointed delegates to the National conference are people above 60 years of age and less than 10% are within the productive age. It therefore meant that those responsible for the decay has been reassembled by Mr President, to complete the un-concluded destruction of Nigeria or to compensate them for work well done for the role in driving us to this state of shame? The delegates were hand picked from professional and socio-cultural groups yet the largest socio cultural group Association of the Poor has no single delegate to the conference, so who will represent them since they constitute 80% of the population? The fact that the youths who are expected to implement whatever resolutions reached at the conference were short changed raised serious questions about the sincerity of the conference. Also, since the delegates were hand picked and not elected also question the democratic credentials of this administration. Quite worrisome is the fact that poverty which has been domesticated in Nigeria as a profession with the largest constituency has no representation thereby confirming the conspiracy against the Nigerian people. Poverty is a profession that is why we have government policies like NAPEP and many discredited poverty alleviation programes, then why did Mr President failed to concede slots to them? In conclusion, the National conference may just be political diversion from serious leadership challenges or an assembly of people to be manipulated for 2015 polls or at best an inauguration of another political machine to hatch another third term agenda. However, as days unfold we shall watch events as they will be dramatize at the conference. Either way it goes the delegates will loose nothing because they have 12 million naira as allowances, something greater than any wage anywhere in world. May God save Nigeria, amen.
