Careers in teaching and technical writing are options as well. Types of chemists include analytical chemists, who identify compounds in substances. Inorganic chemists focus on the structure and properties of metals and other nonliving objects, while organic chemists study molecules of living things. Research and development of chemical compounds for pharmaceuticals occupy medicinal chemists. Physical chemists establish theories of chemical reactions and find new uses for materials. Physics Careers Physicists can choose a career from several subfields, through which they explore scientific laws that govern space, time, energy and matter. Condensed matter physicists study the physical properties of liquids and solids. The physical makeup of the universe is the focus of astrophysicists, while the clash between atomic and subatomic particles draws nuclear physicists. Medical physicists design imaging technologies and radiation-based treatments. As with chemists, physicists can use their bachelor’s degree as a launching pad for an advanced degree in medicine or law.
