Some Facts About Obamacare (from Mike Huckabee) President Obama’s Rose Garden press conference to promote Obamacare included 13 people who were already enjoying the benefits of the Affordable Care Act. One drew the most attention when she suddenly became woozy and nearly passed out. Don’t blame the President’s verbosity. She just has Type 1 Diabetes and is pregnant. While she got most of the attention, reporters overlooked what might have been a more interesting fact. Out of the 13 examples of people benefiting from Obamacare, only three had successfully managed to register for the insurance exchanges. At least one hadn’t even started shopping for insurance yet. But she’d gotten deep enough into the website to register to start to shop for health insurance. I guess that’s enough of an accomplishment to earn you a trip to the White House. They welcome winning Super Bowl teams, and that’s probably not as hard. Meanwhile, Obama used the event more like a campaign speech, to hammer Republicans for not supporting the Affordable Care Act. It’s true, no Republican in Congress supports that law. Not because they want poor people to go without health care, but because they see it as a fatally flawed law that expands government power and will make health care worse and more expensive. There seems to be a new theme taking shape, to try to subtly blame Republican opposition for the disastrous Obamacare website. But I don’t see the public buying it. Most people know by now that no matter how much Republicans hate the law, they couldn’t stop Health and Human Services from spending $640 million on building a website with more crashes than the roller derby. Republicans aren’t letting go easily, though. The Republican National Committee has filed a Freedom of Information Request, demanding to know how many Americans have actually enrolled in federal health exchanges under Obamacare. It’s a number that’s so far been a state secret more closely-guarded than the NSA files. Does anyone else wonder if the Obamacare enrollees who surrounded Obama in the Rose Garden really were all of them?
