Some Monday morning thought provoking info: Creatine is the most well researched supplement in regards to health and fitness. Even with the droves of studies that support its effectiveness and safety in both weight gain and weight loss, strength gain, repeated exercise performance, etc., there are still people that bring up the one popular case study of kidney failure in one amateur, recreational bodybuilder. Well, that did happen. But here are some variables that arent mentioned about the individual: -He was taking 20g of creatine a day while the suggested effective dose is 5g. He did this for 4 weeks. Even though recent studies have suggested that doses of 20g a day for 5 years yields no negative health effects, this is still worth considering -His symptoms started 4 weeks after he discontinued taking creatine. - When his symptoms began, he was taking 17 different amino acid compounds, 18 different herbal/plant extracts, and 16 other nutritional supplements. -Most importantly, he already had a history of kidney issues. -Once he stopped taking all of the crap he was jamming into his body, symptoms ceased and he made a full recovery. Interesting how this entire scenario turns into creatine almost killing an otherwise healthy young man when you dig into what was really going on.
