Some Sufis say, that the basic usool for Islamic rulings is that it has to be mentioned in the quraan that it is haraam/forbidden. That is absolutely wrong. In fact, its the exact opposite. The basic usool for Islamic rulings is that it has to mentioned in the quraan that it is PERMISSIBLE. If something pertaining to islam hasnt been mentioned, then we dont act upon it. Hence, an act which has NOT been mentioned, yet acted upon, is known as BIDAH/innovation. So this is not an excuse that asking from the dead hasnt been prohibited in the quraan, so well ask from the dead. As Ive said earlier, the prohibition is not required. The prrmissibility is required. Does the quraan or saheeh hadeeth anywhere say that asking from the dead/waseela is permissible? No, hence we do not act upon it. Allah swt says in the quraan- You cannot make the dead hear, you cannot make the deaf listen to your call when they turn their backs and leave. (Quran 27:80) Therefore, there is no scope for the dead person to hear anything pertaining to the living world let alone answer back to matters concerning him. Once a person dies, he is totally isolated from the living world. He is in the process of transitioning to the Hereafter. Now coming to the hadeeth of istisqa/ the asking of rain, Umar RA went to Abbas RA to ask him to pray for rain. Why didnt he go to the grave of the prophet SAW, and ask him to pray?? Why didnt he go to the grave of Hamza RA, the shaheed, to ask him to pray for rain? Why didnt he go to the grave of Abu Bakr RA to ask him to pray for rain? The answer is so simple and straightforward - BECAUSE THE DEAD CANT HEAR YOU. Now Ive clearly explained, bi iznillah , that asked from the dead is not permissible. Ihdinas Sirat al Mustaqeem. Ameen.
